Global Wellness Day, a one-day event that celebrates health and wellbeing, takes place on June 10, 2017 this year. The concept is based on the simple premise of increasing global consciousness of living a better life by drawing focus on healthier lifestyle choices.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO), the biggest health problem in the world is surprisingly not a virus or disease, but depression- an affliction that is linked to sleeplessness, stress and obesity.
The non-profit project started by wellness leader Belgin Aksoy five years ago is being embraced by the spa and wellness world and has now been accepted as a Global Wellness Institute initiative. Belgin, who came up with the idea to combat depression by promoting the importance of living well, says, ‘We have honoured almost everything which is valuable to us with a special day, so why not have one that’s dedicated to the university accepted importance of wellness?’
He added, ‘Living a life with wellness at its core is the guiding principle of our organisation which is why we say ‘Yes’ to Global Wellness Day.’
